The plain-English terms behind the education tools: what they are, what they aren't, and where your data lives.

The short version

These tools give estimates and planning help — not professional advice. They come with no warranties. Tracker entries live only in your browser, so keep your own copies.

Not professional advice

Honed Signal's education tools provide estimates and planning help for general purposes only. They are not academic, financial, tax, or legal advice, and using them does not create a professional relationship between you and Honed Signal.

School policies, tax laws, and financial aid rules change. Verify anything important — a grade requirement, a tax credit, an aid decision — with your school, the IRS, or a qualified professional before you act on it.

Estimates, not guarantees

Every number a tool produces is an estimate built from the figures you enter plus simplifying assumptions. Real outcomes will differ: grading scales vary by school, costs change, and no model captures your full situation.

Treat results as a starting point for decisions, not the final word on them.

Your data stays with you

Tracker tools (such as the scholarship tracker or accommodation tracker) save your entries only in your own browser, on your own device. Nothing you type is uploaded to or stored by Honed Signal.

That means you are responsible for keeping copies of anything important — use the CSV download each tracker provides. Honed Signal is not responsible for entries lost because you cleared your browser data, switched devices, or switched browsers.

No warranties

These tools are provided as-is, without warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Honed Signal is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the tools or reliance on their results.

Special-education tools

The IEP meeting agenda builder, accommodation tracker, intervention progress tracker, and related tools are organizational aids for parents and educators. They are not legal advice and do not substitute for an advocate or attorney.

Special-education rights and procedures vary by state and district. For questions about your child's rights or your school's obligations, consult a qualified special-education advocate or attorney in your area.
