What these numbers mean

The tax-savings figures estimate how much federal income tax each planned contribution could avoid at your marginal rate. The FSA's net benefit then subtracts the amount you said could go unspent and be forfeited. The HSA's net benefit does not subtract forfeiture because HSA money remains in the account and rolls over from year to year.

Your medical-expense estimate gives context, but it does not change the tax-savings formula. Compare your planned contribution with costs you can reasonably expect, especially for the FSA, where overfunding can put money at risk.
